About Cowans Of Western Kentucky
Jeremiah Cowan Was Born In 1768 In Old 96th. District, South Carolina. On 
January 24, 1788 He Married Elizabeth Hayes  In Old 96th. District Of South 
Carolina. Nothing Is Known About Jeremiah's Mother Or Father, But We Do Know He 
And His Wife Elizabeth Hayes Cowan Where In Morganfield, Union County Kentucky 
By 1820. Jeremiah & Elizabeth Had Six Children, Three Daughter And Three Son's. 
Their Children Where William,  James W., Elizabeth, Eleanor, Nicy Ann, And Some 
Believe The Sixth Is Thomas H. Cowan. All Of Their Children Where Born In The 
Old 96th. District Of South Carolina. Jeremiah And His Son's Worked Their Farm. 
Jeremiah Died In Morganfield, Union County, Kentucky In 1822 . 

Oldest Son William Born February 08, 1793 Is My 3 X Great Grandfather. In 1812  William Fought In The War Of 1812, In The 2nd Regiment West Tennessee Militia  Infantry. William Was One Of The Riflemen Who Fought At New Orleans Under Gen.  Andrew Jackson. William Was Stationed Near The Center, And Has Often Told The  Story Of How He Stood Upon A Cotton Bale While The Fight Was In Progress. He  Served As A Corporal In The Regiment Of Colonel John Cocke And In The Company  Commanded By Captain John Dalton.  This Unit Did See Service At The Battle Of  New Orleans. From The Book "Tennesseans In The War Of 1812". In 1830 William  Married Mary Elizabeth Dickerson In Sumner County, Tennessee. William And  Elizabeth Had Eight Children, Three Daughters And Five Sons. William And  Elizabeth Lived In Union County Until Their Death. William Cowan On February  22, 1879 And Elizabeth On 1863. Although There Is No Stone For Elizabeth  Dickerson Cowan We Assume They Both Are Buried At Old Mt. Pleasant Cemetery,  Sullivan, Union  County, Kentucky.

Second Oldest Is James W. Cowan Born October 16, 1803. On November 07, 1822  Married Catherine "Kitty" Carrier In Union County, Kentucky. James Like William  Worked Their Land. When James Died He Passed His Land That He Then Lived On,  About Eighty One Acres To His Only Son David Ervin Cowan. James Left The  Balance Of His Land To Two Of His Daughters, Melvina Holeman And Permelia  Taylor To Be Divided Equally. Mr. James Carrier Says: James Cowan Who Married  Catharine Carrier Owned The Farm Where The Cowan Cemetery Is Located.  He Set  Aside The Hillside For The Cowan Family Cemetery. His Mother Is Buried There  Elizabeth Cowan And So is his wife, Catherine Carrier Cowan; Mother-In-Law  Rutha Carrier All In A Straight Line. At Least Two Of James Cowan's Deceased  Children Are Also Buried There. It Was Cowan Cemetery Before Samuel Holeman  Married One Of James Cowan's Daughters Melvina Cowan. Now After Samuel Holeman  Married Into The Family, He Bought The Farm From James Cowan. James Cowan Left  A Will That Told Where He Wanted To Be Buried On The Hill.

Eli Cowan Son Of William And Elizabeth Was Born September 05, 1836 In Sullivan,  Union County, Kentucky. Eli Is My 2 X Great Grandfather. On December 15, 1860  Eli Married Sarah "Sophronia" Moore In Crittenden County, Kentucky. From 1870  To 1920 Eli Worked His Farm And Even Found Time To Be A Blacksmith. Eli's Wife  Sophronia Came From The Well Off Moore Family And The Story Fronia Moore-Cowan  Had A Lot Of Money And When Eli Married Her They Lived in Union County. Eli And  Sophronia Lived In Union County Until Their Deaths. Eli On January 18, 1929 And  Sarah "Sophronia" Moore Cowan On April 17, 1899. They Are Both Buried At Old  Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Sullivan, Union  County, Kentucky.

On December 29, 1866 In Sullivan, Union County, Kentucky A Second Child Was  Born To Eli And Sarah "Sophronia" Moore. Robert Lee Cowan Is My Great  Grandfather. Robert Lee Cowan Later In Life Was Known As Bob. On December 29,  1886 In McConnell's Ferry, Hardin County, Illinois Bob Married My Great  Grandmother Mary "Mollie" Mattingly. Mollie Was Born On February 19, 1867 To  Leonard "Lynn"And Hester Blake Mattingly. Bob Was A Farmer Who Farmed His Land  In Blackfor, Webster County, Kentucky. Robert Lee "Bob" And Mary "Mollie"  Mattingly Cowan Had Seven Children, Two Daughters And Five Sons. Bob And Mollie  Cowan Lined In Webster County Until Their Deaths. Robert Lee "Bob" Cowan On  July 14, 1931 And Mary "Mollie" Mattingly Cowan On February 05, 1947. They Both  Are Buried At Oak Grove Cemetery, Webster County, Kentucky.

Robert And Mollie Cowan Had A Son That Turned Out To Be One Of The Best 
Grandfathers Anyone Could Expect. My Grandfather Was Homer Lynn Cowan. Homer 
Was Born In Blackford, Webster County, Kenyucky On October 22, 1905. Homer Lynn 
Cowan Married One Of The Best Grandmothers A Kid Could Expect, My Grandmother 
Willie Mae Johnson. Willie Mae Johnson Was Born On April 03, 1907 In Crittenden 
County, Kentucky. Willie Mae Was The Daughter Of William "Oscar"And 
Alma "Susie" Denny Johnson. Homer Lynn Cowan Was A Farm Hand He Ran Farms And 
Ended Up Having A Small Farm Of His Own. Homer Lynn And Willie Mae Johnson 
Cowan Had Four Children, Two Daughters And Two Sons. Homer And Willie Mae Cowan 
Lived In Webster County Until Their Deaths. Homer Lynn Cowan On February 14, 
1993 And Willie Mae Johnson Cowan On June 13, 1982. They Are Both Buried At 
White Oak Cemetery, Clay, Webster County, Kentucky. Thanks For Showing Me How
